Bigelow Blues for some, joy for others

A pandora's box of mixed emotions was opened during a recent OnTV exclusive poll regarding the status of the small stretch of Bigelow Boulevard resting between the front of the University of Pittsburgh's Cathedral of Learning and the William Pitt Student Union. The University has decided to experiment with closing the section off for two weeks towards the end of September, much to the anticapted joy of Pitt students, and the outright rage of drivers. OnTV managed to get quotes from both students and drivers.

Shaht Ahts!

One student, on his way to an Intro to Fiction class at the Cathedral of Learning, said, "Finally. I've been here for three years, and I'm sick of crazy drivers who are out for 'Pedestrian Points'." Another female student agreed, by saying "Even though I've never been hit, I'm glad that they're doing it. I'm glad Pitt is looking out for the safety of students."

Most drivers were none too pleased with the "experiment". "I wouldn't mind it as much during the morning hours," said a Wilkinsburg commuter, "but when afternoon hits and everyone's going home, it gets crazy. How much more when they close Bigelow down?". Another driver adamantly stated that "the problem here is that Pitt wants Oakland to be a [college-type] atmosphere, like Penn State. It's not. It's a city that happens to have a university, and it should stay that way. Deal with it."

It's interesting to note that one interviewed person in particular was torn: "I'm a student here at Pitt, but I commute from Monroeville. So I can understand both sides of the story. I'm just not sure where I stand."
