![]() ![]() School officials at Duquesne University say that the college will collect research about families using a grant of just over half a million dollars from the Scaife Family Foundation. The money will go toward the making of "The Duquesne University Family Institute", which will explore the economic, historical, psychological, sociological aspects of family-related research, Duquesne (and also the newly-conceived institute's executive director) President John Murray said. Vanishing ValuesIn a recent press conference, Murray went on to say that creating the institute is consistent with the Roman Catholic university's "profound concern" for values. The institute is an especially important endeavor, Murray continued, in light of evidence linking the "disintegration of the American family" to violence and other societal blights.Search and ResearchThe institute will gather, coordinate, and evaluate current studies not only from Pittsburgh, but from the entire nation and around the world. It will be generating original research as well. The institute will establish what Murray said was the first international electronic database containing all studies related to all types of families; all available on the Internet."The idea is to make this available to everyone around the world," Murry added.
