Jury Selection in Lackawanna

The Gammage trial ensues, at a snail's pace. Jury selection for the trial of John Vojtas (another patrolman charged with the involuntary manslaughter of Johnny Gammage, Steelers defensive lineman Ray Seals' cousin and business partner) was moved out of Allegheny County completely due to extensive publicity.

Judge Cashman began by telling 45 people who had reported to the Lackawanna County Courthouse for jury duty that he would interview all of them. By Oct. 29th, Cashman's staff dismissed eight of the remaining jurors. He and the attorneys worked until early evening, interviewing 37 others.

Among those selected were two machine operators, a practical nurse, a postal worker, a teacher, a housewife, the business administrator of a home for troubled boys, a real estate agent and an employee of the Scranton Housing Authority.

The trial is expected to begin the week of November 4th.
