Marilyn Manson Pays Our Fair City a Visit (While Others Flock to an Alternative)

Mansonburgh Two kinds of music at opposite ends of the spectrum went center stage on Sunday night, May 4th.

While dozens of pallid, goth face-painted teenagers dressed in black attire waited outside the gates of the Civic Arena for Marilyn Manson's "Antichrist Superstar" concert to begin, hundreds of others gathered a few blocks away at the First Presbyterian Church, clapping and dancing to the Christian music extravaganza "Flock Rock".

Organizers of the "Flock Rock" concert had intentions of presenting an alternative to the sexually explicit, Bible-bashing, flag-desecrating lyrics and antics of Marilyn Manson. The controversial band has been in the media spotlight repeated times; almost every city on the "Antichrist Superstar" tour has produced its share of angered protestors wanting to ban the group from their respective communitites. Also in an attempt to counter the "satanic" verses of Marilyn Manson, some 20 Christians passed out Biblical tracts to many of the Manson fans in line.

The "Flock Rock" concert ended before Marilyn Manson took stage, without much further incident.
