A Beautiful Day For A Parade

The weather for this year's St. Patrick's Day Parade was a pleasant contrast to that of three years ago. It was this weekend in 1993 when Pittsburgh and the entire East Coast was pelted with the snowstorm of the century now known as the Blizzard of '93. Road were closed as the snow piled up, but the parade went on as planned.

This year blue skies and moderate temperatures greeted the tens of thousands of people who came to the city to view, and participate in, the nation's second largest St. Patrick's Day Parade. Throngs of people continued the celebration in Market Square, where people waded through long lines to enjoy a cold beverage at Gallagher's Pub.

To those of Irish descent, the day was one of mixed emotions as peace in Northern Ireland had been recently broken at the end of an 18-month-long ceasefire.
