CMU Shoots For The Moon

A group of Carnegie Mellon University researchers is looking forward to a day when their lunar rover will be transported to the moon to explore our celestial neighbor. If successful, the Lunar Rover will have a full motion view of its surroundings as it is controlled from Earth.

One of the proposed uses of the rovers involves a theme park. Visitors will have the ability to control the vehicle and experience the surroundings of the moon by using high-tech communications, remote control and virtual reality technologies. Other customers of this inaugural private lunar mission include a television network, scientists, and commercial sponsors.

The device, which is nearing the $1 million mark in costs, was rolled out of its hanger for the first time this week to be demonstrated for NASA officials.
