Usually a time of the year where snow is in full swing, instead, Pittsburgh is pillaged by the plagues of rains... cold rains. One of the areas hardest hit appears to be the Monongahela Parking Wharf, where for several days, the place was closed because of flooding.

From the 8th to the 13th, high waters have impeded any parking whatsoever. The loss of three weekdays of revenue has cost the authority more than $14,000, in addition to the estimated $2,000 spent on cleaning, which lasted all day from Sunday, the 11th to Monday, the 12th.

According to the Parking Authority Director, all the work was done by authority personnel. This included the donning of boots, gloves and mud gear in order to hose down concrete.

First, high water levels occured -- bust as the waters receded, the wharf was covered with thin, watery silt. The stuff had to be removed or washed back into the water.

A job well done, for now the usual 800 spaces are available for customer use... until the next period of flooding begins, of course.
