Pittsburghers can rest a little easier knowing that the 1995 crime rate has dropped 17.5% over the previous year's statistics. According to the Public Safety Department, the city is the safest it has been in 30 years.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Mayor Murphy attributes the lower crime rate to a "combination of good policing and increased community response."
Serious crimes showing a decrease included aggravated assault, arson, burglary, homicide, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft.
